Having two boys of my own, we always look for fun and inexpensive things to do. The Conejo Valley is such a great area to live and raise kids. It’s usually not that difficult to think of something especially with so many great things to do in Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village with your kids.

I left out the obvious things like bike rides, beach trips, etc. Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any recommendations.

Here’s a list of some of the things to do with your kids:

1. Oak Canyon Splash Park, Duck Pond & Dog Park.

Oak Canyon Community Park – (Watch a quick video)  This is a great park in Oak Park that has a little bit of everything. When there’s water in the creek, you can crawdad fish (all you need is string and bacon), there’s a new splash park for little kids, there’s a regular park with swing sets, and there’s a new dog park tucked in the back. There are also some easy hiking trails, a duck pond and plenty of places to ride bikes. We had my sons 5th birthday party there and it was a big hit.

2. Thousand Oaks Library.

The Grant R. Brimhall Library (a.k.a Thousand Oaks Library) is one of the most impressive libraries around with over 370,000 items housed in an 84,000 square foot facility. The library offers lots of special events and things for kids to do. Watch the video to learn more! (website)

3. Sapwi Bike Park.

The Sapwi Bike Park is the Conejo Valley’s first (and still only) bike skills park, located inside the Sapwi Trails Community Park in Thousand Oaks, California…

…the Community Park also features several miles of multi-use trails, natural habitat preservation, and other activities such as disc golf, cross-country running, and a non-motorized glider flying area.” (sapwibikepark.com)

4. Hikes in Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley.

There are so many beautiful places to hike throughout The Conejo Valley and the surrounding areas (my top 7). You’ll find waterfalls, grottos, and all sorts of cool things. If you don’t know where to start, here’s a great website called alltrails.com. Just enter the zip code and you’ll get a detailed list of everything you need to know about local hikes.

5. Boulderdash.

An indoor rock climbing facility with over 10,000 sqft of sculpted climbing surface.  (Watch a quick video)  It’s an activity that both kids and parents can participate. There’s fun and challenge for all climbers of all ages. For families, climbing is one sport where you can truly interact and participate with one another. You won’t be watching from the sidelines! 6. Underwood Family Farms.

My kids are a little old for this now, but when they were little, we used to go here a lot. It’s located in Moorpark off of Tierra Rejada (website). There are lots of things to do here and it’s very inexpensive.  There’s an area for kids to play, there are animals to see, you can pick vegetables, there’s a farmer’s market, you can host birthday parties and more. They also have an annual Civil War Enactment.  In the fall, it turns in to a huge pumpkin patch. Check it out if you haven’t already.

7. Reagan Library.

You may think the library is a little more geared towards adults, but there are often events geared towards kids too. Sign up for the newsletter to learn about upcoming events (website).  Located in Simi Valley, the library hosts events like Santa Visits, Easter Egg Hunts, Colonial Days, and many more, most of which are free. You can also tour the library and go inside Airforce One. Kids under the age of 11 are free.

8. K1 Speed Racing.

“The best indoor go kart racing…”

Indoor racing tracks fun for the whole family. K1 Speed offers private parties as well as walk-in racing. Check out their website for reservation recommendations and everything else they have to offer including food and drink menus.

9. Sky Zone.

Sky Zone (previously known as DojoBoom) has wall-to-wall trampoline and aerial activities – including foam pits, sky hoops, and Ninja Warrior inspired courses. Literally let your kids bounce off the walls.

10. Kids World in Oak Park.

Located in Oak Park, Kids World is a great indoor playground more geared towards younger kids (under 10).  (Watch a quick video). There are tons of activities for kids to do. You could easily spend a couple hours or more. It’s about $11 per child (no time limit). For older kids, there’s Lazer Tag too, but it costs extra. Great heatwave or rainy day place! (website)

11. Conejo Valley Botanical Gardens.

LOOK FOR: Kids’ Adventure Garden

“Between the mall and the mountains and the freeway and the green way, lies one of the hidden gems of the Conejo Valley.  The Conejo Valley Botanic Garden is 33-acres of natural terrain encircled by the city of Thousand Oaks. From the the sweeping vistas at the peak of the Garden through fifteen unique, hillside specialty gardens, and onto the hiking trail along the riparian steam, the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden is a destination not to be missed.” – CVBG.com

12. Paramount Ranch.

Hike the surrounding trails of Paramount Ranch and check out the standing sets used in movies and tv over the years. Though the famous western set was lost in the Woolsey Fire of 2018, you can explore all that still stands. There are plans to rebuild – so take some pictures as you hike and watch the Ranch come back to life in the coming years.

13. Driving Range/Golf

I love to golf so this is a no-brainer for me. Located in Agoura Hills, Lindero Canyon Country Club (don’t let the term country club fool you, it’s just a regular golf course) is a great place to teach kids how to play.  A bucket of balls is cheap, putting is free, and if you decide to play the course, it’s all short holes made for beginners.
